Goliath Harness Updates
Exciting Update on Our Harnesses
We have gotten answers to our prayers!
We are thrilled to share that a large gear manufacturer has reached out to us with a strong desire to support On Rope 1. We have found our way forward, and we are officially working through the process of transitioning our harness manufacturing to them and getting our current harness issues resolved.
So far, everything looks very promising. We are working through the process of transferring our blueprints, cut sheets, criteria, and other manufacturing information to them. They are ISO 9001:2015 certified and manufacture for several other established companies as well as their own line. We are meeting with them next week at their manufacturing facility and bringing all of our current stock to be inspected and repaired according to the original design.
We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to move forward with a manufacturer who is willing and able to help us make this right.
What You Need to Do
Please check your harness carefully against the photos we posted on our Facebook page—particularly the patch-stitch area near the attachment loops.
If you identify an issue, please email jeff@onrope1.com with the following information:
- Photos of your harness clearly showing the area of concern
- Proof of purchase (If purchased online, you are likely already in our system; otherwise, please attach a receipt or order number)
- Manufacturing date (found on the inside waistband label)
- Your full name
- Current phone number
- Current shipping address
Note: If you purchased your harness at an event, we may not have your current contact information on file, so please be sure to provide those details so we can update your record. Please note that this process does not apply to normal wear and tear.
Once we have reviewed your information and verified the issue, Jeff will contact you directly to explain the next steps.
What Happens After Your Harness Is Verified
RMA & Shipping Label:
Once an issue is verified, Jeff will issue a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and provide you with a return shipping label.
Shipment:
You will then ship the harness to us (or directly to the manufacturer—TBD) for repair or replacement according to the finalized process.
Store Credit Option:
If you have a verified issue but prefer not to keep the harness, we are happy to discuss store credit options based on our current return policy.
⚠️ IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT:
The manufacturer is willing to receive used cavers’ harnesses, but the harness MUST be washed before it is shipped back. Caving grit damages heavy-duty sewing equipment, so clean harnesses are strictly required for the repair process.
About the Patch Stitching
We also want to clarify the patch-stitch area that has been a topic of concern.
Per William and Carolina Shrewsbury: The patch stitching near the attachment loops is redundant to the Box-X stitching directly below it. The primary structural support is provided by the Box-X stitching, while the patch stitching provides secondary support.
Regardless, we want to make it right. We will ensure the appropriate stitching is in place according to the original design and our finalized repair process.
Catch Us at OTR Next Week!
If you are attending OTR, come by and see Jeff! He can inspect your harness in person and help determine whether there is an issue. If an issue is found, please wash your harness, and we will take it with us to the manufacturer for repair and ship it back to you as quickly as possible.
Please Bare With Us This Week
Please be patient with us during this transition and prep week. We will be extremely busy preparing for OTR, but Jeff will respond to your emails as quickly as possible.
Follow-up: If you have emailed Jeff and have not received a response by Labor Day, please give the shop a phone call so we can assist you directly. In the meantime, sending photos upfront with your email helps Jeff review potential issues right away.
One More Thank You
We especially want to thank the caver who reached out to us and will be working with the manufacturer who stepped forward to help. We are incredibly grateful for their willingness to work with us to get this resolved. We also want to give a special thank you to William and Carolina for helping us compile all the technical documentation for the transfer.
While there are still final details to work through, we now have a clear path forward. As soon as everything is finalized, we will share the full update and begin issuing RMAs.
Thank you so much for your grace, prayers, patience, and support through this season. We love our community deeply and look forward to building a stronger, better future together!
