This is a Personal Escape Descender, which is only 4 inches in length. Designed by CMI for escape use, it will work on ropes from 5-10mm. It is not recommended for use as a normal descender, but in an emergency to save your life, it will get you down from a high place. The small size of this Figure 8 is optimized for descending small ropes.
